Project Description:

Dr. Anastasia Koralova has written an elementary Russian textbook that is used for first and second semester Russian at UNCC. Through grant support provided by the Office of Academic Affairs, she and Professor Yuliya Baldwin are transforming the textbook into an online electronic textbook and workbook. The website has audio activities and automatically graded exercises and quizzes so students can practice on their own and receive immediate feedback.

The Faculty Development Lab is available for LACS and ELTI faculty interested in developing multimedia language computing applications.  It contains 9 PCs, including two video editing stations, one audio editing station, a scanner with document feeder, and a color printer.

     Equipment available for faculty checkout:

    * Laptop
    * Digital camcorder
    * Tripod
    * Digital still camera
    * Web camera
    * Computer microphone
    * Handheld digital recorder

The LRC provides a range of services to assist faculty members use instructional technology in their teaching and research.  It provides professional development, grant assistance, project development and support, help planning and using instructional technology in instruction, and technical support in non-campus-standard applications used for foreign language and ESL instruction.
Services for Faculty 
  • Reserve the LRC Classroom
Reserving the LRC: 
Step 1:  Check availability .
Step 2:  Email reservation request .
  • Color printing
  • Video editing support
  • Audio editing support
  • Tape international TV
  • Duplicate and / or convert media
  • Put materials on reserve in LRC for use in the LRC
  • Professional development (showcases, workshops, and training)
  • Grant-planning and grant-writing assistance in areas involving technology
  • Serve as liaison to other campus instructional technology and technology units
  • Digitize audio for web distribution for classes & assist in securing copyright permission
  • Consultation on instructional technologies for foreign language and ESL instruction
  • Course software installation in the LRC.  We can install language software for your courses on LRC computers.  Requests must be made at least 2 weeks prior to the beginning of a term (Fall, Spring, Summer).  Computers are re-imaged before each term.  Also note that we cannot guarantee that all software will run on LRC computers.

 

Spring 2009 Center for Teaching and Learning Drop-In Hours

Sam Eneman, Caryl Gordon, and Melanie Smith, Instructional Technology Consultants, from the UNCC Center for Teaching and Learning hold  drop-in hours in the LRC Faculty Development Lab (COED 436) to provide faculty assistance using Blackboard and Moodle.  Assistance using Blackboard and Moodle is also available in the Center for Teaching and Learning (Atkins 149).
