The LRC coordinates training opportunities with other units on campus. It offers training in programs and applications that are specific to language instruction and not taught by another UNCC unit.  Workshops are open to LCS and ELTI faculty only.

Training is offered on-demand for LCS and ELTI faculty members.  Individual and small-group training sessions are available.  Training can be arranged by appointment.

Fall 2009 Instructional Technology Workshops

• Introduction to Blogs

Create a Blogger account and develop your first blog for a language or literature course.  Examples of blogs used in language and literature courses will be presented.

• Introduction to Google Earth

Language and culture instructors can use Google Earth to develop activities where students visit virtually sites in different countries.  Students can go on virtual field trips to different countries and explore the world using Google Earth.

• Introduction to Podcasts

Learn what a podcast is (hint: it’s free and you don’t need an iPod!) and how to locate and listen to podcasts and videocasts in other languages.

• Voice Recording & Audio Editing Tools

This training session will introduce faculty members to the tools available in the LRC that can be used by students or faculty to make and edit audio recordings.

• Introduction to SmartBoard Software

Learn how to get started using the basic features of the SmartBoard software that is available in the newly-equipped classrooms.

• Introduction to Video Editing

This training session will help faculty get started with basic video projects such as recording student presentations, adding titles (like the students’ names and credits), and adding transitions. The recording can then be saved to a DVD, CD, or videocassette for using in class and sharing with students.

• Beginning Hot Potatoes

This workshop is for faculty members who already have a webpage and who would like to develop interactive language activities for their webpage.
